Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts Launched

Internationally renown marine scientist, conservationist and artist, Dr. Guy Harvey, announced today the launch of Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts & Marinas.  The company intends to develop a system of eco-tourism resorts targeted to fishing and diving enthusiasts.  Incorporating Dr. Harvey’s lifelong scientific and marine conservation efforts, each resort will showcase a destination respected for its marine eco-system.

The centerpiece of each resort will be the “Guy Harvey Theater”, a multi-media experience offering interactive educational and recreational programming to resort guests.  Seminars and presentations by on-site research professionals will complement appearances by Guy Harvey and other recognized marine conservationists and enthusiasts. On-site research programs and content will be developed in conjunction with the Guy Harvey Research Institute and the Nova Southeastern School of Oceanographic Research.

Based in the Cayman Islands, in addition to Guy Harvey, the firms co-founders include Bill Shedd, President and CEO of fishing tackle giant AFTCO, Charles R. Forman, a prominent South Florida attorney and long-time business partner of Guy Harvey and Mark Ellert, president of IAG Florida, Inc. whose Ft. Lauderdale based real estate company will oversee licensing, development and management.

In announcing the launch, Guy Harvey noted “it is a continuing passion to educate myself and others on the wonders of the underwater world, and this is an exciting vehicle to combine marine research and awareness with relaxation and recreation. As an avid conservationist and professional diver and fisherman, my goal with our new concept is to not only ensure each guest enthusiast has state-of-the-art experiences, but takes away a more complete appreciation of our fragile marine ecosystem. ”

Bill Shedd, a prominent California marine conservation figure adds “we intend to create an authentic lifestyle product, targeting watersport enthusiasts around the world who are passionate to the point of perfection and are clearly predisposed to protecting the marine environment that gives them such fulfillment.”  AFTCO’s sportswear division, Bluewater, is the exclusive manufacturer of Guy Harvey apparel and a portion of its sales fund activities at Guy Harvey Research Institute, as will be the case with Outpost Resort & Marina sales.

Mr. Forman, whose family was instrumental in the founding of Nova Southeastern University and the Guy Harvey Research Institute, stressed the long-term value of world-wide research initiatives and his intent to infuse each resort with educational and cultural awareness of the destination.  “I’ve had the great fortune to travel with Guy around the world on various expeditions, and have memories of a lifetime given what I’ve seen and the people I’ve met. I believe each Outpost Resort & Marina can serve as a working marine laboratory, where guests and their families can create a life-long legacy of learning on-the-job, where the job is to have fun fishing and diving.”

With responsibility for implementing the roll-out, Mr. Ellert echoes this sentiment.  “We’re the custodian of a brand that transcends Guy himself…it is a brand that represents the intersection of marine research, science, art and adventure.  Our job is to create, if you will, a collection of base camps for a new generation of marine explorers, offering unique destinations, experiences and like-minded guests who interact to weave together a lifetime of memories.”

Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts & Marinas is actively negotiating management, development and licensing opportunities in the Bahamas, along with plans to concentrate its initial efforts in Florida, Mexico, Central America and the western Caribbean.  Ellert adds “we intend to launch a tiered club program, with all members enjoying a newsletter keeping them abreast of Guy’s exploits and up-to-date on newsworthy marine research and conservation activities at their home club and across the globe.  Club members who own at a destination will be encouraged to donate use of their units to research professionals, creating a win-win opportunity to further the cause of marine conversation”.

Management will be under the direction of seasoned hotel veterans, Mr. Christopher Pollock and James Allmand, with extensive experience in offshore hotel operations, marinas, resorts and clubs. Design and construction will be administered by Eric Nesse and Joe Neville, both with long track-records in resort and offshore construction management.
